| Ok, so you're all guns loaded up, a med kit, perhpas some nice scopes, and of course your knife, you always have yourself your trusty knife. Now a lot of games have ammo so you can run out of bullets and then you have to revert to your knife. Now mw almost got something right wit ha throwing knife idea except for the fact that most soldiers aren't trained to chuck knives at an enemy's face. So let's say there are two of you with your knives or that guy with a knife is right behind you and you can't draw, aim and fire. You either have to get in a knife fight and have luck or run. So instead of two guys stabbing away why don't devs put in hand-to-hand combat becasuse all soldiers are trained for it. Almost every (if not all) soldiers are trained in a martial art known as Krav Maga which is essentially deflecting blows and countering quickly. So just think about that when you're about to knife a guy that perhaps it would add some interest if he could counter with his bare hands and you two get in a reflex based battle. |

| Well it's just that in games if instead of fightign knife fights which are usually half luck you could use your mad krav maga training to disarm and incapacitate the sneaky little hobbitses (knifer). |

There is one problem with that. Lets say you both have run out of ammo, oh no! you say. You go into a fist fight, this will probably take a few seconds and what in that few seconds will stop your team-mates and your enemies team-mates from shooting at you? |

| Oh and it also takes away the satisfaction of knifing someone! |

| Shocky's got a good point on that one. it would take time, and though it improves realism, video games don't need to have lots of realism, they need to give people that warm feeling inside when they completely destroy the opposing team. its just easier anyways to create a knifing animation that is a one shot kill, rather than a entire combat animation with everything including the button mashing that make people feel as if they can control the combat, and most devs are too lazy for that right now. so would you rather get shot trying to do hand to hand combat, or knife him, steal his ammo or gun, and keep fighting? |

| Simply put it detracts from the main action that an FPS game is supposed to deliver.
If everytime somebody goes melee on somebody else do you expect it everytime to drop into a meta-game sort of button mashing that Jeffry mentioned? It would be too clunky and complicated.
Complication is simply the only reason popular game developers haven't implemented such "meta-gaming". |

| Well I guess I have always been into the more complicated type of stuff to do... I guess a better way to put it was to have a more viable way to take out that knifer next to you. Besides, they can take down the enemy in about 2 seconds if you ask me. But thanks for all the opinions. |

| I like the idea. If it could be implemented into a game in a way that felt natural and wasn't distracting then I think it could be loads of fun. |
