Sony NGP (AKA the PSP 2) Announcement Empty
PostSubject: Sony NGP (AKA the PSP 2) Announcement   Sony NGP (AKA the PSP 2) Announcement EmptyThu Jan 27, 2011 2:15 pm

I don't know how many of you have heard about the recent announcement but at Sony's Conference yesterday in Japan the successor to the PSP was announced. Code named the NGP (Next Generation Portable) the new device will feature both Wifi and 3G connection, dual analogue sticks, trophies, two built in cameras (front and back), a touch screen, a touch sensor on the back, more integration with the PlayStation Network, quad core CPU and graphics processor, 5 inch OLED screen, and more. Here is what the device will look like:

To go with the announcement, Sony announced a great lineup of NGP games including a new Killzone, Resistance, Call of Duty, Uncharted, and (my favorite of the announcements) a new WipEout game.

In addition, Sony announced that much of their large catalogue of PS1 and PSP games will make the jump to Android phones sometime in the next few months.

So guys, any thoughts on this new device?

The rumored PSPhone is being made by Sony Ericsson, not Sony itself. The rumored name for the device is the Xperia Play. It will run on a modified version of Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The device will probably be announced during the Mobile World Congress event that takes place from February 14th to 17th. It is a separate device from the NGP. It will not get many of the new features that are being put into the NGP. But it will be able to make calls and be fully compatible with Android games and applications. It will feature a touch screen and a slide out gamepad instead of slide out keyboard. It will also come with an exclusive app named "PlayStation Pocket" which lets you manage your PlayStation games. Here are a few images of the Xperia Play:

The Play will of course be the main reason Sony is interested in putting up their collection of PSP and PS1 games on Android Phones.

Oh and if you want to see the new games, go to: http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/32708
The quality isn't great, but you do get a chance to see some of the cool new games Sony is putting out.

I have a PSP. I personally think its a great portable game machine and it has quite a selection of great titles. The web browser is awful and the PlayStation Network integration leaves a lot to be desired. But it has plenty of kickass games and lots of cool features.

The PSP has saved me about 20 hours worth boredom whilst i'm travelling on a plane.

But then again I only bought it secondhand cheap, waste of money buying something that costs that much in my opinion.

I got the PSP when it first came out. Got a few games on it and then a year later I get a Xbox :p. The year after that I got a laptop and a DS but the DS was stolen. So now the PSP is sitting on my dresser and hasn't been played since my GTA Vce City Stories broke. But it will all ways be my baby and I would much rather have it then that high tech piece of junk. No offense to those who like it but the first gen PSP just looks and seems better in my mind and eyes. No I was not trying to brag. Just to show you what got in the way of me playing it. Damn Xbox. Love it but it's a drug.
