AT Mines alt choice to C4 to Destroy MComs Empty

2 Engineers laying AT Mines can destroy an MCom with a grenade or weapons fire at the AT Mines.

Pros:
AT Mines survive the soldier being killed
AT Mines can detonate while being attacked at the MCom

Cons:
No Reload like Assault/C4
Not a quick activation like C4


Questions

1) How many AT mines are needed to destroy the MCom.
2) Does the Extra Damage spec reduce the number of mines needed?
3) Does the engineer carry 7 mines automatically, allowing for the SPEC slot 1 to be something other than C4 bandolier/packs?

1. ? more than 12 with extra demo. Note that they take longer to deploy than C4.
2. yes with demo up, mines kill un-armored tanks at once, without takes 2
3. engineers carry 4 natural, 7 with hip packs.

IMO mines CAN work, but they mean that you need to have an engineer on attack, which makes them a slightly more dubious trade. I can see them being a good option when the defenders also have armor that we can counter-mine.

2 C4 assaults, working together, kill an m-com in like 4 seconds...then can re-ammo. There's really no need to improve on that. The difficulty is getting them there unnoticed, not the power of their attack.

At one point deecon and I were discussing using mines and did a field test. It took him over a minute, for one engineer, with an ammo box, to kill the m-com with mines. We decided at that point that we'd be comfortable defending our own m-com with them.

I think mines are better from a "fire and forget" perspective, and are better for scoring kills then for actually taking out the MCom. All it takes is a stray grenade and you'll (hopefully) bag yourself a couple of kills.

Other than this C4 is better in every way, shape and form.

I have found that putting a mine or two next to an mcomm whille defending is nice. Especially nasty in an enclosed space (zone 1 laguna presa a mcomm) toss a nade before storming the room. If the extra blast doesn't kill them it will disorient for your entry team to kill.
