I'm glad the alpha came out, more interesting gameplay to watch! And the beta, I doubt it will be out until this september or october, the BF3 beta didn't come out until a month before launch.

No, the carbine is an all-class weapon. If made exclusively to the Engineer, the Engineer has the optimal firepower of an Assault. Since it's the personal defense weapon, they won't be matched as effective to other classes.
By I see what you mean Death; I'm just saying that PDW's should stick to an all-class, since they're effective, but not as other firearms variants in-game. Same reason why DMR's are a good all-class weapon; they're not up to par with sniper rifles, but they're effective in their own role.

Maybe it was a balance issue. I found that I easily got Engineer points when I played vehicle maps (which are most of the maps; but maybe only half of the time played or whatever); much like its easy to get points playing assault on infantry maps.
