It is to me, considering how many people do NOT know anything about how their Country was founded, why it came to be and what not. And then when you are interested in history, poeople look at you like you are a retard. This just proves my point, and I guarantee you will get the same results in every city/state, not just Cali, although they seem to get the short-end of the stick on these "studies".
Same could be said about a lot of WWII things, and S***. Hell, a lot of people believe we fought the NAZIS... But when I correct them, they get bug-eyed, and get stupid... lmao.

I think not knowing the exact dates behind Independence Day is the least of America's worries right now. I think we have greater problems, culturally, fiscally, etc--such as America's independence on government welfare.

Splinter, thank you for the elaborate...Wikipedia-searched lesson in U.S. History, but as long as people who celebrate understand the significance of the holiday, I'm fine with it.
And bronx is right too. Date is just a number...an urgent number, but a number at most.

It explained it better than I could of. Jesus, trying to give ya'll some knowledge is like trying to teach a 2 year old how to do Algebra.
Also, history repeats itself. Better to learn and prepare, then not pay attention, and let S*** hit the fam. Quite frankly, the more I know, the better I am. The 30's had the Great depression, and we are showing signs of entering a nother depression, but not as bad as back then. If people would take the time to learn about the past, the present & the future could be so much better.
I'm off to go celebrate Halloween, as they happen in the same year, so F*** dates.

Splinter, it was joking around. Don't take this to a new extent. It's a day for celebration, so celebrate, don't become too solemn about the topic. Plus, considering you got that from the Wikipedia source, you also forgot this:
"Historians have long disputed whether Congress actually signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, even though Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin all later wrote that they had signed it on that day. Most historians have concluded that the Declaration was signed nearly a month after its adoption, on August 2, 1776, and not on July 4 as is commonly believed."
Until historians con prove this is true, that it was signed on August 2, 1776, then let's celebrate it on July 4.

But splinter its not like its an educational flaw or cultural deficit that the majority of Americans don't know the exact date of the signing. Its more like what fun facts and myths. Not a big deal

Your right, it's not, but it does show how close-minded and stupid a lot of this population is.
And pretaining to my earlier post, when I was in school, I had to correct my teacher, and a lot of the nitwits in my JUNIOR Class (We don't have History for the senior classes), that we fought the GERMAN Army in WWII. Not the NAZIs, as NAZI is a political party. That would be the equivalent of saying that Republican Army destryed the Democratic regime. Makes no sence, but what can I say. The whole Edu. system is flawed, especially here.

Go ahead, say it. I'm not a fan of this place any way. 18 years in a desert that only has casinos and hookers. What a life.
Here's a joke I know about here: You know how they call Las Vegas the "Sin City"... well, Reno is so close to helll, we can see Sparks... bahahah! (Yes, there is a place called Sparks, Nevada, and it is very close to Reno.)

Ranger, I'm from India. Even we kicked the british out. If you kicked them out, we delivered a swift curb-stomping. I'll celebrate on August 15th, but till then, happy independence day.

Officially, our independence from spain is June 12, 1898 .. and from US its July 4th, 1946. I believe though that our real independence is July 4th and not June 12th. the government disagrees. haha xD
