MW3 controversy Empty
PostSubject: MW3 controversy   MW3 controversy EmptyFri Nov 04, 2011 3:33 pm

An early gameplay video surfaced today showing the disturbing death of a child by an explosion, I will not put a link to the video because honestly I dont know the reaction many fathers in the clan shall have, however I found it fairly easy by googling a bit. Needless to say it will be at the very least controversial. After all we remember what the public response to the level "no russian" in MW2 was. So Im making a poll, do you think videogames are pushing the envelope to whats moral or not? More specificaly do you or do you not approve of videogames having disturbing concepts such as this to create a blockbuster experience?

MY OPINION: I love videogames, Ive been playing them since I was 4. However, there are lines we should be careful of crossing. A scene like this is powerful indeed, but we have already seen it in movies at least. I think that while youre not directly responsible to an event like this in a videogame, I have no problem with it BUT its only a matter of time before they do give us the option and be directly responsible in the game. But until that time comes I have no problem.

I haven't seen the video you're talking about but I understand where you're coming from. I was a little disturbed by the "No Russian" level in MW2 and I distinctly remember the disclaimer at the beginning of the game that asked if you wanted to play that level or not.

Children being used in war is nothing new, it's happened in many wars..disgustingly so. Korea and Vietnam to be more recent. Wars affect everyone, in every way imaginable. Being on my mid-20's, I've seen the growing amount of a violence escalate in the years that I've played video games. I was distinctly aware of the Columbine High School shooting in '98..I was in my last year of middle school. As well as several other school shootings around this era that claimed these young students learned about death and destruction from the video games they played.

It's some cause for concern, but I can't make the only correlation between violence in video games towards how aggressive people are today. It seems that generally people are much more defensive..possibly due to the extreme downturn of the economy. They're not as friendly to welcome strangers into their lives or to meet new people due to the growing hostilities of how badly the economy is as well as how society is in general.

Home invasions, drunk drivers, drugs, prostitution, news reports (constantly showing murders, rapes, car crashes, wars, etc.), parents showing indifference towards their children..as well as video game violence are all contributing factors.

What it boils down to is making a personal choice. A choice to discern what is to be taken from playing video games like MW3. Everyone is going to take certain things away from playing games like this..a vast majority of them will be desensitized to children dying by an explosion. I'm not making excuses by any stretch of the imagination..but the wars fought in the past have made people aware of the horrors that war brings.

The game takes place in Modern-day combat environments, and children are used all the time.

When my dad returned from Afghanistan, he told me that his greatest fear was not of death, but having to raise his weapon to end a child's life. This is due so, because many Fathers 'over there', will strap explosives to their child, then have them go ask the soldiers for candy.

Therefore, if the Developers of the game are trying to bring in a touch of realism, I am fine with their attempt. But, it is still horrible to show that to anybody, as a child is a child, even if it is just digital creation.

I feel that some things are Going too far

Videogames army real lfe so they shouldn't show things that do happen in real life

Children shouldn't be In games or trailers getting killed whatsoever it's disgusting

The only thing I've ever found wrong was No Russian which I was disgusted at for that even being in there

I watched the trailer, turns out, I was lucky I found it, because 2 minutes after watching it, the youtube page went blank and it said "This Video Is No Longer Available. It Has Been Removed By Activision", hmm, I think they noticed the negative reaction and are trying to wipe the video of the surface of the internet lol

Seems a controversy similar to that of Dead Island's.

Anyways, I don't mind if it's used well on the story as a geniune effort to add a stronger emotional impact and not only to create controversy. However, only if it's presented as part of a video or sequence—not explicit—and not as part of the gameplay; I don't want to shoot a virtual kid.

no, its not you who kills her. youre basically playing as a dad who is recording your wife and daughter, then a bomb explodes killing you all ending the sequence

oh alright then Razz, but yeah our opinions are similar then. I honestly dont want to be given the option to be the one who does that in a game either. But if its scripted like a scene thats beyond your control then I dont see any real problem.

See with the video game world today, they are violent. Like gears, mortal kombat, etc. But when parents No offense. See the games and link them to to shootings and bulling. and other things do they realize that its NOT the games, music or movies, but its the enviroment they live in. I mean I played GTA and when I got made at someone you didn't see on the channel 6 news running around with a flamethrower and a tank wrecking havoc on a city.

I dont think it matters that they give you an option... its still horrible... Games today are pushing everything they can to make the game seem cooler... The violence level has gone through the roof... I understand that theyre trying to make the game more realistic, but... if you wanted realism you would go enlist... If they wanted to be realsitic... they would take out all the bull conspircy story line... not have little kids blow up. I live in family of 7 and all of my little siblings are under 8. Stuff like this is wrong... just wrong.

When stuff like this comes up.... i can see why Politician and Parents would blame school shootings on... When stuff like this comes up... It makes the people who play these kind of games horrible than they really are... When stuff likes this comes up... It makes you wonder what kind of sick crue people would think to make the game "MORE ENJOYABLE" by killing off little kids.

These kind of stunts are the reasons there are politicians voting to make it a LAW that you have to be 17 to get an M rated game. I know the developers at Activision here about these kind of things.... but with stuff like this... it gives them one more fact to help them against the wrongness of games. They can keep pulling BS stunts like this... but when a law like that is passed... The sales of big companys will decrease dramatically... and to be honest... thats the last thing we need for our economy right now.

When gamers go to play a game... they want to play for fun... not to feel like theyre apart of a special anti-terrotist task force... and to experience realistic sequences from wars.
