Ive always wondered who here has family that fought in World War II. My Great Grandfather was a Sargent in the French Forign Leigon and was in the Norht African battalion. (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia) He fought in the North African campaign and survived... most of it. He was KIA in Tunisia, killed by a Panzer. My Grand Uncle fought in Europe as a sniper. My dad tells me he could hit a penny with a Springfield on a fence from about half a mile away.

Two of my Great-grandparents were in WWII. One was part of the OSS, and the other was part of the 82nd Airbourne.

Practically I have had at least one family member that was part of a Special Forces type unit, in almost every major conflict, lol.

My uncle was there for D-Day, he showed me his german luger he took from a Nazi.

My grandfather was a British Paratrooper in WWII. Sadly, he died a few years before me, my brother, and sister were born so we never got to see him.

My dad's father (My Grandfather) was a seaman on the USS Enterprise and saw a lot of action. Not exactly sure what he did, but was enlisted and was all over the Pacific. I never got to meet him, but wish I could've.

My Grandfather worked for an Army Medical Camp and my Great uncle was a Merchant Mariner, which had the largest fatality rate of all the services in WWII

a few uncles in RAF. Grandfather was in both world wars but in the merchant navy.

I'm from a family that has children late on in life, my father was the second youngest born in 1947 and his father was born in 1890 something and my grandmother born in 1901.

I have no idea at all about my great grandfather or what wars he was in, I don't even know his name lol.

Since where going that far down into history, ill just tell you about all my grandfathers i know of.

My grandfather (Moms dad) Served as a Helicopter pilot in veitnam. He doesnt really talk much about it so im just going to leave it as that.

My grandfather (dads dad) Served in veitnam, both of his legs got blown off from a grenade, Or motar (One of the two) Later died from the bad wounds.

My great Grandfather, was a Unteroffizier (Corporal) In the german army. (Not SS) He was at the Eastern front. He was tooken prisoner and was exicuted (What i was told) Never trueily know what happend.

My great great Grandfather served in the german military dureing WW1, i forgot his rank. My mother said he was in the navy, but where not completly sure.

My Grandfather from my mums side was Russian And fought with Russia during the war

My grandfather From fathers side was polish and fought with Britain (Left Poland as he was Jewish same with mums side)

My grandpa Cliff Blackwell was in the Airforce/Army Air Core I'm WWII
My Other Grandpa Jim Zahner was in the Army ( he was not allowed to go to Germany at first because he was German. WII
My Step Grandpa Raymon Renner was behind Enemy lines setting up Comunications equipment. WWII
My U.S. Recon Jim Blackwell was a green beret/Ranger/Scout .. not sure witch one though WWII My Grandfather Raymon Renner was in the batalion that General Patton Apologized to !

Well my family is chalked full of millitary history. I need to go to egypt and read what my family did during WW2 i know some of my family members served during world war 2. But what I do know about my family is that we have been generals, random soldiers etc. since 1400s in egypt. We were in the Ottamen army till its fall most of my ancestors where officers since anyone who owned land in an ottaman region was appointed as an officer.

Now in the 20th centuary I know my great uncles servd during world war 1 on the Ottaman side. Also I heard that a few of my uncles served in the French forgein legion during world war 2 but I have to confim that. After the Ottaman fall my family has served in the Egyptian army since.

as for my family i had four uncles that served in ww2 , two of them in europe one served with patton as a tanker and my other uncle who has passed and never talked about it won the silver star, i found that out at his funeral during the military ceremony. one other served in the pacific as a field tech, he just passed and the last one i believe was stationed in California as his brothers were in harms way, they all served at the same time. i had another uncle who was a green beret in vietnam and my own father was a sarg in the army serving in korea.

my great grand father ( mother's side ) was forced to enlist with the wehrmacht I believe, very late in the war. He survived and I can remember from when I was a little little kid, but he was very sick and old, and could not really talk ( nor did I even knew about WWII then ) and died soon after.

My great grand parents, father's side, had many connections with the dutch resistance groups. I never met either.

My grandpa was enlisted toward the end of WW2 into the US Army, just after the war in Europe had drawn to a close. With Japan the only area in the Pacific left with major Japanese resistance, and no other unclassified way (atomic bomb being classified at the time) of defeating the Japanese, it looked like he would be invading Japan, and probably wouldn't have lived to tell the tale. But gladly, the bomb was dropped, keeping him from invading Japan. He still fought in Korea, but the Koreans weren't nearly as fierce of fighters as the Japanese were. Didn't quite meet the ww2 standard, but it still is pretty close, right?

I only know something about this on my mothers side.
My great grandfather was a land lord, and had a rather big farm.
Belgium was occupied by German forces for a very long time. And every town had a couple of German soldiers that were stationed there. There were two of those soldiers that lived in one of the buildings of the farm complex.
But at the same time, there were up to 4 Canadian pilots that bailed out of their shot down aircraft in the basement of another building in the same complex. They never found out, and made it back to non occupied territory safely.
The resistance had to take a risk/gamble sometimes, and hiding close to the enemy was successful for them.

My great grandfather served in the 1. WW as an solider in the german army. He got shot in the shoulder, but survived. He carried the bullet his whole rest of life with him, he never got operated. Anyway, he always sayed, that this bullet saved his life.

My grandfather was recruited into the Waffen-SS and was so proud about it, at that time. He was a bit nazi-ish during the war, well... I think 15 years of brainwash dont just pass by. He growed up in that ideology. He was in the normandie also on D-Day. His unit got captured soon by americans, his luck, as he says today. He got deported to America as an prisoner and always talked good about you americans, they treated him very well. When he talked about his time in America, it sound like the best time in his life. He was just a little farmer in germany, never saw a big city, not even berlin. And then, he saw Manhattan and it was just amazing for him. He always wanted to visit it after the war...
Well, as i said, he was racist but had to work with black people in prison in the kitchen. Somehow he got a very big friendship with a black man and his whole lookdown on the world changed. He really respected the americans for being so fair to the prisoners. He said, that he eated Cornflakes first time in prisonship, i remember.

I respect your vets and country for that clean war from your side and gotta say thanks. I even would enlist to the marines, but have no green card.

Well, my other grandfather was also a german solider in 2. WW. in the marine/navy and was stationated in norway. He does not talk much about it.

my great grandad fought at flanders field in world war 1 he brought the last shell casing that was fired back from there and had it turned into a vase ive still got it today its pretty cool. My grandad couldnt get in to the forces during the 2nd world war on medical grounds but he did serve in the volenteer fire serivce and also made ammuntion for the front line troops.

My grandfather was a Captian of a ship. He was patrolling the west coast pre-wwii. He missed pearl harbor by a day. He was only was late one time and thank god it was that day. He is still alive to this day and everyone in awhile tells us stories.

I forget exactly which member in my family it was, but it was in the tree, and he was a covert spy whose job was to inflitrate key SS Deathcamps, holocaust camps & transport trains, get it's coordinates and it's weakpoints, and send them back to the Allies so they could bomb it and free the jews. Pretty cool. Oh yes, and I am part jewish/part catholic, and my grandma and her friend got freed by a Nazi officer who had fallen in love with her. He told her the night before most Nazi officers fled the camp that the S.S. was pulling back through the area, and they would line up & kill all of them if they didn't escape in a day or two. He told her which Nazi guards would stay during the guard transitions at which guard towers, and even showed her & her friend where exactly the weakpoints to the camp where. They sucessfully escaped and were found by friendly Allies. The rest of the Jews at the camp didn't believe what my Grandma & her friend told them, they didn't believe the SS would come back and wanted to stay at the camp since there was still food & supplies left. The rest of the jews at that work-camp sadly didn't survive. If it weren't for my grandma's good looks, I wouldn't be alive.
