After we learn how much of us are going to play, we have to see on what side will bigger part play. This way, we could rule out which side will our guild take. Predictably, you will have to have at least one character this side so we can play together. If this is not going to be your primary character (out of different affiliation, for example) than it will only be required to have either Trooper (Republic) or Bounty Hunter (Empire), no dividing in here.

Heres some info of its current state

Space combat: boring as hell. Its a line shooter, not free form and many people hate it. May or may not implment something in the future, as said by BW

Jedi Knights- Dps is alright, not bad but not the best dpser. many people choose guardian.

Conslors/inq- There are ATON of these guys. They're currently one of the most OP classes in the game. Especially INquistors. I say this because Conslours do Kinetic damage (unconfirmed this is just wat the playerbase is telling me) and inq do elemental damage (lightning and what not). Elemental damage has no strong defense to it unlike kinetic.

Troopers/BH. They'er a good all around class. They have good heals, they are great tanks too.

Smugglers/Agents- Expect to stay in cover a lot if u want to DPS. A majority fo the dps side of this class skills are done only in cover. So your gonna be standing still just spamming your skill threw. Their heals are terriable compared to other classes, and i have yet to try the Close quaters combat.

Well, you are right and it is still in beta, hell they dont have an "offical" release date yet so who know what chances will happen. The guild I am in is at the moment all jedi, but I intend to make atleast 1 of each class on both sides to fully learn and experience the game. If you guys join in, let me know so we hopefully can be on the same server or the same guild. I am happy with the guild I am in, but I am happy to make an alt in your guild if ya make one.
