So yeah, Lol. Notch, creator of Minecraft, challenged Bethesda to solve their legal dispute over "Scrolls" trademark name with a game of Quake 3. Read the whole challenge:



"The only negative thing going on at this moment is the Scrolls trademark lawsuit nonsense, and I think I came up with the perfect solution:

Remember that scene in Game of Thrones where Tyrion chose a trial by battle in the Eyrie? Well, let’s do that instead!
I challenge Bethesda to a game of Quake 3. Three of our best warriors against three of your best warriors. We select one level, you select the other, we randomize the order. 20 minute matches, highest total frag count per team across both levels wins.

If we win, you drop the lawsuit.

If you win, we will change the name of Scrolls to something you’re fine with.

Regardless of the outcome, we could still have a small text somewhere saying our game is not related to your game series in any way, if you wish.

I am serious, by the way."



I can just say lol. This guy rocks.

Lol epic. the first time a game company does stuff that doesn't involve the one party getting tons of extra money from it.

I've seen such things happen before, but not on such a big scale as a lawsuit x) although I think that there's more behind the challange than just the lawsuit. they get the gamer's attention, attention they want. if they also end up winning, it'll be even better publicity. but if they lose they'll still have manage to save face among gamers by picking up the honor of gamers and reducing the negativity of the lawsuit itself since it will become hidden behind the fact that hey, they actually gamed to solve it. it's a smart move on their end, it's a win-win-situation for them. the other company nearly HAVE TO accept because of how this is getting so widely known already and if they don't accept they might lose popularity among the crowds. if they on the other hand win, they'd also gain that extra publicity which would benefit them. very smooth move indeed.
