| What's a relatively cheap, but high quality point and shoot? My girlfriend lost hers a while ago, and is into photography. Perhaps quality is a little more important than price here.
Thoughts? |

| for under 500, I'd go with either the Nikon P7000 or the Canon G12. If you can still find them, the Canon G11 and G10 are very capable cameras as well. The Panasonic LX5 might be worth a look.
now for cameras that a poor college student might be able to afford. keep in mind that these will not offer as great image quality as the cameras above due to smaller image sensor size.
the Panasonic lumix ZS7 is pretty decent, and so is the nikon S8000. No manual controls on these guys, they are almost completely automatic, which might hamper an aspiring photographer.
anything cheaper than these cameras are more suited to simple snapshots at the local club and stuff like that, IMO. Used DSLR's are pretty common on craigslist, you could probably get a Nikon D40 for under 400 dollars - its a good entry level SLR. |

| Yeah, that stuff's more on the pricey end. I don't think she's too concerned about manual controls at this point; it seems to be more about editing with her. Something with decent resolution is all that matters.... I think. :/ |

| Lol what? They just look like brown eyes. In SLR cameras, the zoom length is measured in millimeters |
