Like all those TV shows advertising and advocating better living and health like the "Biggest Loser", I'm going to be an advocate for increasing your score-per-minute or SPM! It's a robust stat to look at a single person's activity in game in conjunction with K/D and # of pins. Its also a good indicator of a person's squadplay attitude! ***PSSSST! If you didn't know already, the points that you get normally on your own, are increased when you do it to a squadmate!***

Your score-per-minute or SPM can be difficult to increase just like losing weight. However, with small and easily realizable goals, you will be able to attain it!

Say your SPM is 180. Set a goal not much higher than that! Perhaps 190 or 200. This translates into setting down more medkits and ammo boxes, reviving not just the fallen squadmate but providing covering fire as another teammate is pinned, or repairing armor. Do what ever it takes. Just remember, every action is accounted for in EA's servers, and as a stats junkie such as myself, I know who's doing the work and who's sitting back.

I advocate this because I want us to be better than we already are. We are great and we already are improving, but I subscribe to the, "You can always improve on the already improved" mantra.

"But I got a word of warning to all would be warriors. When you join my command, you take on debit. A debit you owe me, personally. Every man under my command, owes me, one hundred Nazi scalps. And I want my scalps. And all y’all will git me, one hundred enemy scalps, taken from the heads of one hundred enemies or you will die trying!" -Lt. Aldo Raine (Inglourious Basterds)

PostSubject: Re: SPM Challenge (Score Per Minute)   SPM Challenge (Score Per Minute) EmptyWed Jul 14, 2010 5:25 pm

IMHO, SPM is an imperfect method for determining the contribution of a squad member. A squad member's proficiency is more than just his SPM, K/D, W/L, etc. I know many players with poor or average stats who are very good team players.

If we were to review my stats http://bfbc2.statsverse.com/stats/360/axx%20bytehoven one might conclude I was a major piece of deadwood. However, that conclusion would have cost many teams a win on defense or attack. I don't care about getting killed if I achieve a greater good like blowing up the MCom with my C4 charges, rather than trying to escape to a safe distance. I don't care about being killed trying to arm/disarm an MCOM, as my willingness to go in. has accounted for winning or saving many games, when others were waiting for a safe opportunity. I don't care about being killed when trying to rescue another member as a Medic, taking out a heavy vehicle with C4, or staying in a heavy vehicle to keep it from being captured by the enemy. All that said, I still try to be prudent, but not to the purpose of stat padding.

IMHO, developing, thoughtfully selecting and then executing sound squad tactics trumps all. A poor player following good squad tactics may prevail over an excellent but wayward combatant. Sure, be both an excellent player and use sound tactics. "A man has to know his limitations!"

If we are talking about the formation of an ELITE [13] Delta Ops Squad, then stats are worth considering in the the context of squad tactical proficiency. However, I would be careful to not place to high an importance on stats because this endeavor will do doubt cause some members to feel unwelcome due to their average performance.

In conclusion... pre-[13] my stats were way worse. My proficiency improved greatly when I began playing sound squad tactics under Spiralus and other infamous [13] leaders. Still, I have to be honest and admit I do not have the gaming skills to play at the level of some of our better [13] members. Does that mean I should quit gaming? I think not. But I do need to pay better attention to squad tactics so that I contribute to my team.

Just my $.02

Axx

Before I played with Warlords, my K/D was at 0.87 but my W/L was high, maybe because it was the first time playing? But now my K/D has gotten up to 0.95 but my W/L has been lowered.

I am actually forming this Delta Ops Squad however, in the context and spirit of this clan, I would have to vote against the elitist facade it may put up. Like you said, it may let others feel unwelcome. Now if there were some way to make it so that members can try-out for, then by all means, I am open for suggestions. However, I am not for tooting my horn or others.

SPM in conjunction with pins, and I wish they had more then just a history, but also a graph of performance like EA did with BF2142, then it would prove to have a more robust means of determining player performance.

Obviously, players are also entitles to their outliers, namely, their "Good and Bad Days", thats where this hypothetical graph would come in handy. Also, an SPM averages all the days.

I also agree with you axx, good or bad stats doesn't mean a good or bad squad/team member respectively. But I also believe in improving the individual's abilities as well as incorporating the team tactics. I have faith that "average" members may be able to out-perform the better [13] members.

I personally have been keeping close tabs on players and watching members stats on http://bfbcs.com/ (this is a very comprehensive stats site along with a history) as we have games. I try to get into games with people even if it is just the two of us in a public game. So I do have a good idea of who's who and what their strengths and weaknesses are. Dtiger also started a very helpful and insightful thread that allows the veteran members to dump their thoughts (the mindsets that made others great players) into; it can be found here http://www.13thmeu.org/bad-company-division-f37/to-all-bc2-game-veterans-t2543.htm

I suppose in short, and in another sense, I'm promoting prudence and combat smarts. Prudence and combat smarts go hand in hand with tactfully taking said objectives given any combat situation.

Again, this is a challenge to those who are perhaps looking to be better as an individual and hopefully in the long run will be able to use their new found skills and confidence in aiding [13] into many many victories.

And thanks to axx, I am $0.02 richer!

You need to look at SPM during the entire career, not a day to day basis. Score/min could fluctuate if shorter time periods are examined.

Say you hop on into a game and you only needed 1 kill for a platinum star worth 10000 pts. You get that kill, and then hop off, lets neglect the +50 for "Killing an enemy". Assume, you spent only 5 minutes online.

10000 pts / 5 minutes = 2000 pts / minute = 2000 SPM for that instance!

Antonio. Be sure you check out your overall average throughout your BC2 career. Use this http://bfbcs.com/. It works very well and breaks stats down well, though I would prefer more thoroughly.

Do you play hardcore? I've found it very difficult to win in hardcore as deaths can also be easily racked up. It perhaps means that you've gotten better as an individual but are you playing with randoms a lot?

Oh yeah dude! An SPM of 383 is someone who does a lot of work. In fact, you're ahead of SS RikkiSniper, the first legit 50 on XBOX 360. http://bfbcs.com/stats_360/ss%20rikkisniper. He was featured in this month's issue of GameInformer.

However, like axx said, SPM isn't the whole picture, and neither are all the other stats alone. Even such combined stats paint a limited pictue of your career. We'd have to see your gameplay and squad play to determine viability as squad member.

Though from your stats, I'd say you'd be pretty pro. Razz

To be honest, most of my kills was with the MG36 and its insane accuracy when single firing. The reason I joined this unit was so I can get away from doing stuff on my own, and actually work in a team with mics. The game is much more fun when playing with friends or people with mics. I am FAR from being "pro".

Well I'm glad you chose us antonio, this thread is for people who are looking to improve their stats. If you have an XBOX, you should hit us up for some games! I know our PC platoon is really active too and I hope you have a blast!

If you're wanting to concentrate on more squad play and teamwork, I suggest you check out our Master Tactics Thread, its very good reading on our tactics. http://www.13thmeu.org/bad-company-division-f37/master-tactics-thread-collection-t1786.htm

Try some of those out with your teammates. Obviously, communication is key to all teamwork, but you'll find that such topics go without saying but are thoroughly covered in the above thread.

And thats what all the Crusaders are all about. We use vent, we have tons of fun, and honestly, we don't win all the time. But we get more points, more fun, and more out of the BC2 experience. Although if you 360 guys were to start a competitive 360 Delta Operator squad, to compete in Squad battles, that'd be pretty cool.

Since I've become a medic my SPM and K/D have greatly improved. Oh and not playing HC lol. But HC is a good start, makes you really good at normal core.

I find my propensity for suicide skews my K:D. I prefer the land mine / arm / grenade method. SPM is a great metric. I have improved mine by 1.4 this week which is a massive change thanks to this article. I have freed myself completely now from caring about death. Last round I covered a Vodnik with C4 and drove it into a concentration of enemy shouting 'There is no God but Bronx and Endrane is his messenger' before blowing myself up. Now I'm chilling with 72 virgins . . . .

That's the spirit! SPM isn't even just about being a medic, engineers can rack up points by supporting armor! Kiling multiple enemies in helis also nets you healthy points.

bfbcs.com has added a new graphing feature which gives a much more in-depth look at one's stats with respect to time and gameplay hours logged!

In order for you to view the history, type your tag into the search bar, update it, then click on the history tab once its updated! There should be a very thorough representation of your performance as a single player. (Though of course not as a team player) However, you may be able to change the parameters and see what your stats may be like!

Here's mine for fun. Razz
