Today Star Trek turns 46.
What began as a series that has turned into a worldwide phenomanon. From Kirk to Janeway Star Trek has grown in popularity and with Conventions worldiwde yearly and a reboot by J.J Abrahms it looks like there may be a whole new reboot of the franchise in the future.
Star Trek began from the creator Gene Roddenberry as a "wagon Train to the stars" from this TOS was born. Starring Shatner as Kirk and Nimoy as Spock this series would become famous. It would lead to TNG followed by DS9 then voyager and finally Enterprise. However Sar trek would fade on Enterprise where falling popularity and too dark plots for fans the series finnaly closed Star Trek had ran from 1966-2005. And with a film reboot we could very well see a reboot of the TV series aswell.
Today many people consider Trekkies to be "nerds" or "geeks" however the cultural influence of Trek is one on many programs which are often based on and Star Trek has set a standard for programs which has still not been beaten
