Battlefield 3 - What we can expect
Written by: PFC Nmd12345

Battlefield 3 - What we can expect BF3_Sniper_GDC_656x369-1-1

So far, we know the release date will be by the end of 2011, and I also found out the EA download manager has November 2 (source: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/296555/battlefield-3-release-date-ps3-xbox-360-pc-spotted-on-ea-download-manager/ ) as release date. However, we must consider this yet remains to be confirmed, and there's always chance of delays.

On May 12th, MCV claimed a retailer reported to them: "EA doesn't want Activision grabbing headlines with Call of Duty any longer – it is trying to release Battlefield 3 as close to ‘Modern Warfare 3’ as possible," (source: http://www.mcvuk.com/news/44281/Release-date-showdown-for-Battlefield-and-COD )

This of course, could mean the November 2 release date is correct, and EA wants their release date before CoD's, which is rumored November 8th (according to Kotaku http://kotaku.com/5801226/the-modern-warfare-3-files-exclusive-first-details-on-the-biggest-game-of-2011 and IGN here: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/116/1168454p1.html claiming it was leaked by an anonymous retailer)

The game is confirmed, as you all probably know, for PC, Xbox360 and PS3 and the pre-order will feature a "Limited Edition", which includes:

—A remake of 4 "classic" (and yeah, I use quotes because I don't want to sound like I'm promoting the game) Battlefield 2 maps, which are: Strike at Karkand, Wake Island, Gulf of Oman and the Sharqi Peninsula. They are also including the original design layouts of the maps. (you can check: http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield_bad_company/archive/2011/05/10/Back-to-Karkand.aspx## for a picture and more info).

—Classic vehicles and weapons from BF2.

—Additional Achievements / Trophies.

—The BF3 Beret and 870 Combat BF3 Edition Shotgun for BF Play4Free.

To close this section, I'd like to add some additional notes: The Limited Edition will be available around 1 month later as a DLC (no information on the price, or if it will be free). Also, there was additional information about the limited edition from a french website ( http://micromania.fr/vente/achat_battlefield-3-edition-limitee_Jeu-45196-PC.html?micsessionid=bh6ftqjqjujto9pefie5889sj1 ). However, this leak was apparently denied by EA/DICE, as I found out threw http://www.gamersbook.com/scene/news/battlefield-3-leaked-information-are-not-true/ where they posted a screen-shot of EA/DICE's response denying the information.

Lets move on to the actual content:

I have to start by saying that gathering this information was more difficult, as most of this has been released by EA/DICE threw forum posts, twitter, trailers, etc., and gathering this information was the personal work/project of this persons. Because of this, I'll only post the links—with description—to their work and not the actual information.

General Information/Gameplay:

http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/battlefield-3/1389267-battlefield-3-what-we-know.html Note: The M rating is marked as possible on this link; however, I found confirmation of M rating on Game Informer (see: http://battlefield.gamersverse.com/articles/655/game-informer-cover-issue-including-scans/ )

http://bf3blog.com/2011/02/battlefield-3-what-we-know-so-far-2/

Vehicles (the game will include jets):

http://bf3blog.com/battlefield-3-vehicles/ : Descriptive information and pictures (not from game) of the vehicles seen so far.

Weapons:

http://bf3blog.com/battlefield-3-weapons/ Descriptive information and pictures of the weapons seen so far.

Additional Information/Research:

—The game will not be compatible with with Dx9—no Windows Xp support—and will feature larger map sizes than BF:BC2. However, it also has been mentioned by the developers that the console versions will have smaller maps, less players per match—24 on consoles and 64 on PC—, and lower graphics. The explanation of this was because they don't want to lower the destructible environments and general experience of the game, and the choice was to lower the size rather than the "quality" of the game. It was also added that jets on the console versions will have less radius limitations compared to the PC, to compensate the smaller maps.

—There is no aiming assist for the PC, as shown on this tweet by Demize99: "No PC aim assist. Sorry. The community has made it clear this is unwanted, and I listened."

—They're adding the ammo/clip system of BC2 and P4F, instead of the BF2 system. (found a few tweets from Demize99 to confirm this: "Because I want players to focus on the When and How of reloading, not worry about how many bullets they have left.", "I honestly don't see the problem with reloading after a kill. Throwing away the remaining bullets is frustrating not fun.I want fun" and "No they had 6 reloads. Here I have given lots of reloads but limited the important part: ammo. Makes ammo-box team play important." This last tweet also suggests that they might have reduced ammo to make assault's ammo box play more important.)

—The links of General Information/Gameplay show that there won't be any commander feature on BF3, however, additional information and reasons for its removal can be found at: http://bf3blog.com/2011/02/battlefield-3-wont-include-commander-feature/

Yes, it seems BF was usually released after CoD, but they really want beat CoD now. It probably means Activision is prepraring something really nice too thought:)

Good news for us! Razz

I just wanna clarify this small part... and I agree with you that we dont really know much about either of them yet.

There's no confirmation that it is actually a console port, it could be the other way around. And from what I see, they developed the PC's multiplayer completely different—on maps, menus, server browsers, etc.—than the consoles... they actually mentioned how the new engine was developed for the pc and then they decided how to make it fit on consoles.

I also wanted to say that the devolopers claimed this was their biggest maps ever, and that it had more weapons, gadgets and achievements than any other BF ever created... of course they will say this, but I hope this gives you some hope guys.

Oh and about the wake island: the information came out officially on the BF3 blog, here's the original source: http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield_bad_company/archive/2011/05/18/B2K-2.aspx and this is important: "Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand is still in heavy development. Above is an early piece of Wake Island concept art meant for inspiration only. You can still recognize the typical shape of this quintessential Battlefield map." lol

Hey Grim.Reefer

Hard to say right now... they haven't released any information about that.

I did saw someone asking one of the devs about it, and he just said that he recommended windows with 64 bits and a Directx11 card

There are some guesses... like this one: http://bf3blog.com/battlefield-3-system-requirements/ But I think it will be a bit higher than the ones on that page.

Just came across this. You get key for BF3 beta due to open in/around Oct 2011, if you buy MoH limited edition.

Yeah 2 preorders is waaay to expensive... they should let into beta the persons that preorder BF3... not MoH. Weird move by EA.

Changing topics entirely, EA is announcing some bonuses—for UK gamers only, for now—if you preorder threw http://www.game.co.uk/ or http://www.gamestation.co.uk/ .

The Physical Warfare Pack:

"This edition contains the Type 88 light machine gun with bipod for superior firepower, the SKS sniper rifle flash suppressor for increased stealth, and the wicked armor-piercing flechette ammo for the DAO-12 shotgun. Also included is day one access to the semi-automatic DAO-12 shotgun itself."

Yes, agreed w/ that. And I don't exactly understand. If it does get released to US (Physical Warfare), would we actually have to pay for it, or is it part of pre-ordering the Limited Edition?
