BF3 & MW3 Quarter Results and Updates
Written by: SSgt Trister

Battlefield 3
Battlefield 3 was suppose to announce DLCs this week in New York but, have only stated "we are working on it". Some speculations was a release of an "All American" pack which would feature maps based on US locations, more weapons and vehicles. However at this point, nothing! More can be discussed here

In a recent interview, Peter Moore, the Cheif Operating Officer, admired MW3's Elite subscription model. Could this mean BF3 may see the same model, a paid subscription, in the future?

Battlefield 3 has sold 10 million copies as of Feb 1st. NPD shows that Battlefield 3 has dropped in sales from #3 in Nov to #5 for Dec and Jan with Just Dance 3 (2), Skyrim (3), and Mario Cart 7 (4) filling in the gap to #1 MW3.

Modern Warfare 3
MW3, via Stream, is offering all PC gamers a crack at playing MW3 for free this weekend!

MW3 has kicked off their Content Season last month with XBox.
Activision wrote:
Jan 24th lit the fuse on the highly-anticipated Modern Warfare® 3 Content Season for Call of Duty® Elite, with the release of two all-new multiplayer maps, the opening salvo of nine consecutive months of downloadable content for Call of Duty® Elite's premium members on the Xbox LIVE.
DLC for PS3 is expected to hit this Feb 28th with a new map called "Overwatch" for all. For a list of DLC soon to come, visit the Content Calendar

As of Feb 9th, Activision, reports MW3 their #1 seller while players still buying BLOPS making it #5. NPD also shows MW3 to be #1 sold game since Nov but, has shown a decrease in numbers as time goes on and comparing it to BLOPS sales of last Jan. It is unclear whether CoD series is losing steam or it's based on the fact that games, in general, were down last month.

MW3 has 7+ million registered users including 1.5+ million annual premium members.

Activision announces another CoD coming this year however nothing else has been mentioned and it's been speculated that this version well be developed by Treyarch.

Content collection expected to be released March 2012 but, nothing on what that collection will entail.

So in light, when is BF3 DLCs coming and what are they going to offer the community? Perhaps they shouldn't be focused on the DLCs but fixing bugs, glitches, and balancing out the game instead. Will BF3 eventually become a paid subscription offering premium content? After 3 months, do you think BF3 is where it should be in terms of gameplay, popularity, and content?

MW3 may be the #1 game in sales but, has it earned its place being what most people are calling it, MW2.5? Is it possible MW3 is setting the bar with their paid subscription for content and will others begin to follow? Should others follow MW3's Content Calendar laying out what is coming and when, possibly making gamers impatient for that particular content they so want, or is it better to keep gamers guessing at what is coming and when?

Nice article Trister.

I would imagine that BF3 enthusiasts would most likely want the bugs, glitches, etc. to be completely fixed before releasing even more content that could be hampered with the same faults.

With that said, why hasn't all of these things been fixed for BF3? I know that COD has/is bugs and glitches all the time. The point being that BF3 has been out even longer than MW3 and still they haven't gotten everything worked out, and that's not going to entrall the fan base.

As far as Peter Moore admiring COD's Elite subscription model, it might just be a sign of the times that players will have to pay to get more content out of the game. Players have the choice of choosing not to pay for it, but obviously people are still going to pay for it. As long as that happens, companies will try to exploit it.
