I realize the bf2 section is a bit dead, so i'm gonna try to liven it up. the game has also died down in terms of community, but it is still where my passion is. i dont know how much you bf2 players have gotten into mods, but if you're an old player like me and you're bored of the game, or you're a new player, check out these mods, its like a whole new game!
AIX 2.0, Allied Intent Xtended-
intense single player mod, get on there and waste everything with all new kits, vehicles, and maps, with some of the classic maps still around, great mod, probably my favorite!
http://aixtended.com i realised i didnt give this mod its due- it is awesome. simply amazing. new kits include a support with a minigun, a sniper sporting an AS50 sniper rifles, which is essentially a grenade launcher, speaking of that, the engineer and AT kits have Milkor grenade launchers. A souped up A10 which is the most fun i've ever had flying a jet, ever. a black hawk out fitted with a massive gun and 40+ rockets. The gun is simply incredible. for all the firepower they packed into this mod, it lacks realism, the guns arent as effective as they are in real life (but if they made them realistic, it would just be a frenzy of bullets and kills.). but this mod is definately worth a looksie.
NAW, Nations at War-
another great single player combat mod. significantly more maps, the kits are a bit confusing, but i love the sniper rifle. new vehicles as well. personally i love playing Iwo Jima and driving a stealth boat, camping, and then laying waste to everyone with the tomahawk nuke! teamkills galore, but for every TK, probably at least 5 enemy KIA, i've never finished a round and after about 200 ticks i racked up about 500 kills. its pretty fun.

i personally havent played this mod, but i've heard rave things about it. rounds take forever because its actually a realistic mod. check it out if you've been disappointed by the nature of bf2 and are looking for a more hard-core military simulation game.

this is a really fun, non-combat mod. The developers at Sir have basically isolated a majority of the objects in the game, from walls, to gates, to steel trusses, to containers, to FAVs and Tanks, and put them at your disposal. you are free to manipulate about 100 objects to create anything you want. The kits are the same, with a construction class (a blend of engineer and invincibility) and a zombie class (you're invisible). Some screen shots include massive ships, forts, trees, anything really. i've built bridges, forts, all kinds of stuff. Its also an excellent training mod. You can create explosive and dynamic barrells which provide excellent targets, build huge destructable buildings and get a little bombing practices in, or you can creat ANY vehicle in the game and get some time in practicing.
http://sandboxmod.com/these are just the mods i've had experience with and that i enjoy. other mods include a zombie mod called omnicide (if you like to kill stuff, this one's for you). by no means are these the only mods out there. bf2 has died off but the modding community out there is HUGE. i know of clans that thrive on PR alone. there are servers up for almost every mod. if you have questions, let me know! happy hunting!
