Skirmish Last night Empty
PostSubject: Skirmish Last night   Skirmish Last night EmptyFri Aug 05, 2011 3:00 am

Well i played with you guys the other night on some kind of skirmish. A couple things id like to point out that you guys should consider. This isn't my squad, so you guys can choose to ignore me if you want.

1. Zerging- You guys all liked to group up and try to rush a control point. I remember 1v3 some guys defending a flag by myself until bronx came to help.

2. Know your class- I saw bronx using a tank and then i heard some guy say over vent he was gonna take the tank from our base and give it to bronx. That is a bad idea because he was one of our two medics, and medics need to be healing and rezzing. Engineers are best suited for vehicle combat because their main role is anti vehicle, and guess what vehicles are great at doing that also :O. Medics should also be backed up by at least two other members and should never lead the charge.

3. Lemmings- Many times you guys would try a frontal assualt. Bad, flanking good. I remember i decided to try to push with the group and when i got there i saw a few people just hiding behind cover popping out to fire at someone else who was just sitting there. Instead of doing this time wasting stand off, try to flank him, or move. The more time u are standing still the more time your wasting.

4. Vent- Vent chatter made me laugh last night. When doing serious skirmish like that, you need to know how not to clog up vent. Many times we had people talking over each other and lots of confusion. Heres a few rules i follow when using vent
Never talk over someone, it just means no-one can understand both people. I saw a few people do this, mostly the youngins, which i find happens a lot because youngins dont seem to mind having someone else talk at the same time as them.
Say things once. Saying Theres a guy over there 4 times doesn't do anyone any good. Say it once, and thats it. If they die for not listening to you its their problem, if someone says What? then say it again.

If you say theres a guy over there, and then someone else kills him, make sure you say that you killed the guy flank A, instead of saying I got him. 9v9 means you could've gotten 9 potential people anywhere on the map.

Useless chatter- Talk only about combat stuff, dont get off topic. This didnt really happen, however the in game quotes are there for a reason, use them instead of vent in some situations, most notably medic. If you need a medic, instead of saying BRONX I NEED A MEDIC 3 times in vent, just call for a medic in game. If bronx is good (which we all know he is) he will see the little medic symbol above your head, run over to heal you, same with rezzing, he should see your body and rez, you shouldn't need to call for it.

Use your items. We had more than a few assaults, however i never once spawned on an assault. Maybe was unlucky but use the reinforcement thing, it dominates and helps keep pressure.

5. Know your map. The tactic we were using was using jeeps to take D, and Armor to take C, in Karnkad (idk how to spell it, but u know wat im talking about). D stands for deathtrap in that map. From almost all sides they have a height advantage and defending it is a major hassle. B is the best, by far most important base to take. If they take that D is gonna be very tough to do anything with, and C has a hard time trying to take it. Why? To attack B from D you must climb up stairs, or run down open roads or choke points which defenders have a height advantage, the smartest decision is to go all the way around towards the water and go up those stairs, which takes time. Attacking it from C is also a very hard unless you have major vehicle support. Why? Firs you must run across many open roads, many of which they can easily see from the spawn and cover (the spawn by the basketball court thing). that spawn is very annoying and can cover most of the attack areas heading from C into B. What i believe we should have done is have the jeeps go straight for B, leaving one to take D, having the armor drive to C and dropping off their passengers, like 1 or 2 would do it, and then have them go down the road and flank anyone attacking B where the jeeps are attacking. The Jeeps passengers should get out and use the jeeps as cover, but dont directly use them as cover, use boxes and what not, if the jeeps explodes and your using it as cover its bad.

So like 6 in jeeps, leaving 1 or 2 at D so 4-5 would be taking B
Have the last 3 in the Armor, maybe having the Tank with its gunner take C and having the APC go on and give the people at B Support if needed.

But yeah, those are just my opinions, like i said its not my squad so you can choose to listening to me if you want, idc Very Happy

That is some decent advice. we have considered things like that before, But it is a matter of getting people to work together and think on their feet. Alot of the people on last night, as far as I know, don't play together in this type of seneirio often so it does get hecktic. This is one of the reasons the "really good clans" tend to be small. That way you all work together all the time and know each other and how you all think. As I have said before, one thing that makes a great player, and a great warrior in real battle, is the ability to think and adapt on the battle field. We can practice and opening, or taking b from c, or what ever all day long, but if we go against someone who does something we didn't expect, we fail unless we adapt. My sniper in basra the other day, managed to get into a corner behind enemy lines (we held a, b, c. US only had D) and got like 20 kills before I finally was found and killed. They all ran right past me not careing where they getting shot from.

Good thoughts though. Thanx.

Great advice! This is something I noticed as well.

Especially the vent chatter is very distracting, for I only want orders from my squad commander and general commander. (warnings inclusive of course!)

Its good to hear an outsiders opinion and reflect on current performance. As a coach my mothers motto is: What you can do good, you can always do better Razz

Good advices. I agree with the vent chatter, some guys must stay quiet a bit when in Scrims...

Yeah and keep in mind, like Widghet said, it was a pickup team. I was in a tank because I had the most armor upgrades for it :p But medics in a tank aren't as bad as they seem since they can heal while in it (I have that point--I have like 1 point in everything since I have around 28 skill points on it). I would rez people near my tank and stuff like that. I think we had plenty at C the first time, we had both our armor and 1 repairmen while the rest were charging B/defending D.

That wasn't our first skirmish; but that time I could say it was a little more hectic than usual, we tend to keep vent chatter down more than that. Also, during our 9v9s we did have other people not in the game join us; so I don't think we'll have as much as a problem as we did. We were doing an 8v8 and there were 3-4 others in the channel that were not in game. They didn't know they weren't supposed to be there so you can't blame them, we told them what was going on in a short little statement and kept going on with our business.
