COME GET SOME!!!
Duke Nukem Forever (DNF) is one of the most anticipated games due to come out on June 14, 2011 and is available for pre-order. Yes it is finally slated to come out after being in the making for the past 14 years since Duke Nukem 3D in 1996. Since then, what seems to be, small expansions or spin-offs for the Nintendo, PC, XBOX, PS, and even cell phones has been released to keep the Nukem community satisfied and keep the money coming in. But they haven’t been satisfied enough since nothing fresh has been released. Well, now, the vaporware, as it has been awarded by Wired News twice, is finally to be released.
This is perhaps one of the longest games in development, the most expensive, problematic games to be release. Development started on DNF back in 1997, after the release of Duke Nukem 3D, which as some of you may know, was a big hit. But it kept getting delayed for many reasons.
One reason was caused because 3D Realms (3DR)/Apogee owner, George Broussard, who wanted this game to be the best and to include all the latest technologies. As other games were being released showing off new ideas, engines, and technologies, George wanted it in DNF. It ended up being recreated several times, including a new graphics engine. The way technology was advancing, the game was never going to get done. Another reason for delay was development team members leaving, feeling that George’s perfect fixation will never end or that for the past decade, DNF would be the only thing they have to show for their skills and talents.
If that wasn’t enough, Take-Two Interactive (TT), who owns the publishing rights, was getting impatient with the delay and pressured 3DR to finish. At which George posted for them to “STFU, It'll be done when it's done” on a forum website. With the sales of Duke, Max, and Wolfenstein, among other sales and leases, 3DR was able to become a self-funded company and needed no outside assistance; a rarity all in it-self. This allowed 3DR to concentrate on the game rather than getting it out the door, which fueled George even more so. There was nothing TT could do except file a lawsuit in 2009 for failure to finish and 3DR filed a countersuit shortly after. This led 3DR to file for bankruptcy. In 2010 the two agreed on a settlement for TT to pay 3DR 2.5 million to finish the project.
With 3DR in bankruptcy and the development team practically non-existent, they sold the intellectual property of the franchise to Gearbox, the creators of the famous Borderland, Brothers in Arms, and developers of the Half-life expansion packs Opposing Force and Blue Shift just to name a few of their works. Gearbox is also to complete the final development and finish up the game.
The game is to be, once again, as “bad” as it ever was. Maybe even worse as the Women’s Media Center is attacking it’s content as extremely harmful. You’ll have the same blood splattering, vulgar language, his famous one-liners, and yes, nudity. As well as be able to play pool, lift weights, take a piss in the toilet, and even fling around some feces. A moment of nudity can even be seen on one of their promotional videos where a striper at a strip joint is walking towards you from a doorway topless and even a “babes trailer”. Even their website, although no nudity, shows some provocative images. One of the new modes to this game is “Capture the Babe”, in which, you choose to spank women on the *** while abducting them. Even the ESRB rating is packed with Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol.
After being in development for a little over a decade, and having gone through many developmental phases, teams, and around 23 million dollars, DNF better be the best game out there or at the very least the best Duke Nukem they have ever released. Guess we'll see on June 10/14th.
So I ask, have you forgotten about Duke or can care less or been waiting for his return and can't wait to go and grab a copy? What is your take on this?
You can see video at various website but some of them are NSFW.

Didn't even realize they had one. The ones I've found before was from 2010. But looking around again, it was released yesterday along with a new video.
Apparently they have the demo on Steam and Xbox Live. Can also get the PC demo from Duke's website after you've logged in.

If you Pre-Ordered DNF or bought Borderlands: GOTY Edition, you were invited to the First Access Club, which got the Demo before everyone else, and the first DLC free.

Man, the reviews for this game have been rather negative so far. 54 average on Metacritic for the xbox version, and 76 for PC. Not exactly scores indicating that the 15 year dev time was well used.
