PostSubject: Armory - what to buy & other Campaign Discussions   Armory - what to buy & other Campaign Discussions EmptyWed Sep 15, 2010 11:15 pm

Greetings...

I would appreciate any strategy tips regarding what to buy from the armory. I assume any purchases only make a difference in an online game, correct?

Just finished play the solo campaign for the 1st time on Heroic. Not to bad except for a few places. I want to now do an easier pass to pick up some of the weapon achievements and refresh where all the weapons are located and what kind. Then I'll start a Legendary pass.

The hardest spot so far had to be "A Pillar of Autumn" clearing the base for the the pick up ship to arrive. However, I know some of the missions are going to be just wonderful on Legendary. I would note I rode on the back of the Mongoose and we drove right thru all the early action. I came close to death a couple of times. If I recall correctly, we drove past (3) Scarabs and a host of Covenant.

Favorite weapons? M392 DMR and the T31R Needler Rifle. Although I made it through the clearing of the final base on "Pillar" using the Covenant plasma pistol, not really by choice, I had depleted all of the USNC ordinance stocks except the shotty, which was dangerous to use.

I really enjoyed the Saber Mission, and the Falcon piloting was just OK. The Scorpion tank mission was kinda weak compared to previous tank based missions.

Still trying to figure out where I could have hijacked a Banshee. I know it was mentioned in the mission where we are picking up the data, but I could not find them.

IMHO, HALO: Reach single player campaign is not as good as previous games, mainly because I really like vehicle based battles. However, Reach is filled with beautiful images. Very nice to watch through out the game.

Not ready for multiplay yet, but soon.

I look forward to reports from other members.

Axx

I'd be up to that too. If there ever is a team for legendary then don't forget about me Razz

I haven't played any legendary and I've mainly been messing around in forge on all the new stuff they have now. I'm also checking out the customization on the custom games. Too bad you can't have a multiple choice to what class you choose :/ but it's a lot better than Halo 3. I've come up with some sick map ideas and some 'thinking outside the box' too.

Legendary is ridiculous, probably 10x harder then heroic. It was a very stressful run for me, but an amazing feeling upon completion. I'd have no problem completing it again with some of the squad members to get them the achievement(s).

As for the Armory.. I'm saving all my credits for the Inclement Weather effect which costs 2,000,000 credits. Crazy? I know. Dedicated? Hell yes.

I very much enjoyed the sniper while playing campaign on legendary. The DMR was awesome however it took like 15 headshots to kill 1 high ranking elite. Running out of ammo was a constant obstacle to tackle.

Solo Campaign Observations:

The plasma pistol seems like one of the best choices to run with when you can't load the DMR and a Needler Rifle.

I must also say, as in previous Halo games, the primary needler weapon is very "explosive" if you can get all of the needles on a target. Running backwards from an attacking Chieftan while unloading the needler on him can save your butt.

What gives on the Demon 9/9 Heroic Mission achievement? Even though I completed the campaign on Heroic, I ended up with a 3/9 Heroic Mission count. Is this because I played while offline? Hmmmm...

Can we talk about skull multipliers? At what point does running skulls make the play harder than legendary? I understand running in Legendary + Skulls would give the greatest point count but also make the play even more difficult. So, what's the strategy for a setup to achieve the best point count while not making kills nearly impossible?

Anyone have a killionaire yet? Smile I understand being quick to target the Banshees on the underside of the Covenant ship on the Saber mission is one of the easiest ways to get the medal.

Lastly... I don't know what it is about HALO, but I experience gaming fatigue much sooner and with greater intensity than almost any other game. I can play BC2 darn near all day, but it only takes a few hours of HALO to start me working on a pretty good headache.

I got the Killionaire the same way actually! I shouted out to my Co-op partner, "Hey! If you shoot the docking bay on the carrier ship before the banshee's take off you'll get a killionaire!".

Completing the game on legendary itself I noticed gave a good fair amount of points, though I wish it were more. If playing with all the primary skulls (which I've tried) you'll notice the credit count is MASSIVE but it's practically impossible to achieve success. I'd imagine if you completed the entire campaign on legendary with all the primary skulls active you'll end up with atleast 100,000 credits by the end of the 9 levels. As for individual skulls, I'm not sure yet.. but I'd love to look into a fast method of credit farming.

I picked up the playing guide when I bought the game. It has a pretty detailed breakdown of the various skulls, points for various kills at different difficulties, etc...

I will see about posting the info in a thread.

*** Please note I made it through Heroic Campaign without opening the guide even once. I was a good boy. However, I will be reading up on how to best attack Legendary play thru.

Do you score points in multiplayer?

Firefight might be the other point scoring haven. Lot's look into with this game. (x)(x)

Does anyone know if you play the Legendary pass SOLO, do you get both of the Legendary Campaign achievements? I assume no.

I just finished up the 2nd mission on Legendary.

So far, I have to agree with Tech's statement. While the grunts are not too bad, the elites are crazy hard. The two Hunters you face on Mission 2: Return to Base were insane. I think I picked up and used up every weapon left over from the 1st part of the battle. Knowing I will have to face these guys later, I need to get a better plan.

One thing I have to try... giving any of my squad, who will not die, a more powerful weapon. I remember being able to do this in ODST and it made them more effective. In the case of Mission 2, I would have liked to have given KAT a serious Covenant weapon (Plasma Launcher), to see how much more effectively she could destroy enemy targets.

Completing the 1st two missions on Legendary brought my Demon achievement up to 5/9. So something was definitely wrong for me to not get these achievements during my Heroic play thru.

Look forward to getting down to some Multiplay soon. I hope to drop in tonight to play Tech's new Forge Map.
